Is this for me?
Am I too old for a brit?
No. There is no age limit. We help men in their twenties, their forties, and well beyond. Many tell us they wish they had reached out sooner.
I was circumcised in a hospital. Do I still need anything?
A circumcision done by a doctor, without a mohel and without the blessings, is usually not considered a brit. The good news is that completing your brit is usually very simple.
Every situation is a little different, so we start with a private conversation to understand yours and explain exactly what's involved.
What is hatafat dam brit?
Hatafat dam brit means "drawing a drop of the blood of the covenant." It's how a man who was already circumcised, for example in a hospital, completes his brit.
It's just a quick pinprick with a fine needle to draw a single drop of blood, done by a mohel with the blessings. There's no surgery, no stitches, and no recovery time. It takes a few minutes, and you can go about your day right afterwards.
Is this part of a conversion?
Most men we help were born Jewish and simply never had a brit. If yours is part of a conversion, just tell us which beit din you're working with so we can coordinate with them.
The procedure
Does it hurt?
The brit is done under local anesthesia, so the area is numb. Most men say the anesthetic injection is the main discomfort, and it passes quickly.
Afterwards there is some soreness for a few days. We'll explain what to expect and how to stay comfortable before you decide anything.
How long does it take, and what about recovery?
The brit itself is fairly short. Plan to take it easy for the first few days, and expect full healing to take a few weeks.
You'll get clear aftercare instructions, and a direct number to call with any question along the way.
Who performs the brit?
An experienced, certified mohel who has performed brit milah for men of all ages, working carefully and respectfully.
Where and when does it take place?
Usually in a private office, or at a place we arrange together. A brit is done during the day, so we'll find a daytime slot that works for you.
Privacy and cost
Who will know?
Only the people you choose. Some men keep it completely private. Others invite family, friends, or their rabbi and celebrate afterwards. Both are completely fine.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. A friend, a family member, or your rabbi is welcome to come along.
What does it cost?
Cost should never be the reason to wait. If it's a concern, sponsorship is available. Just ask us during your call.
Is there a celebration?
If you'd like one. A brit is traditionally followed by a festive meal, and many men find it a meaningful moment to share. It's entirely your choice.
